RECYCLING CONTAMINATION

As per the City of Newark, items placed for recycling with liquid or food residue are considered to be  CONTAMINATED.

Prior to discarding recyclables into the dumpster they must first be rinsed of all liquid and food residue.

If you do not rinse the container prior to discarding then you are inadvertently causing contamination.

Fast Food wrappers/boxes, pre-packaged meal trays (TV dinner), cereal bags, candy bar wrappers, etc… are contaminated and are considered rubbish. Pizza boxes with grease or food residue are contaminated, but you can tear out the contaminated part of the box and place it in the rubbish and recycle the clean remainder.

In addition to the City of Newark requiring the above stated, Villa Belmont must also insist that the requirements be followed for the sake of the Residents.  If liquid and food residue is left sitting in the recyclable dumpster it will cause odor and will make a perfect breeding site for flies.

We must all work together to adhere to the above stated requirements and remember that placing rubbish, especially seafood shells and unfinished pre-packaged meals, in the dumpster room without being bagged, tied, and placed in the rubbish dumpster is inconsiderate to your neighbors and the staff.

Your consideration of the Villa Belmont residents, staff, and the City of Newark Sanitation Department will be very much appreciated.

RECYCLING EFFICIENCY

In order to help make collections more efficient, Recyclables are to be broken down to their smallest form.  Boxes folded down, plastic bottles squeezed, cans crushed, etc…

Wash and Squash before disposal          When in doubt throw it out – in the rubbish
